My house keeping skills are on a continuum that lie somewhere between Martha Stewart and gorilla warfare. I love cleaning and really love deep cleaning, I even love cleaning my cleaning machines! My new washer has a cleaning cycle! I have no idea what is going on in there that is different from other cycles but I just love it!
Here are a few of my tactics for cleaning and some ideas about cleaning things you may never have thought of!
First of all, let’s start with the dishwasher…have you ever cleaned its filter? I almost gagged the first time I did this and my machine was probably only 6 months old. There is an unknown substance that builds up after food, water and detergent have been boiled to a gazillion degrees several times in a row and it is not pretty, I now do this once a month just to keep my sanity.
Then, there is that splash guard that protects you from flying debris as the garbage disposal, disposes. Take that out and wash it in your dishwasher, if it has disinegrated in your hands, you can buy a new one at Home Depo. While you are at it pour some bleach down your disposal and since you are at the sink throw your dish sponges in the newly clean dishwasher…..!!!
If your shower/sink fixtures have dulled, you can take car wax and shine them up, amazing, shiny, shimmery like new!
In the fridge, all the dirt is determined to just move around, especially when you wet the surface you are trying to clean, before you do this, take your vacuum and pick up all loose crumbs and onion skins etc……
And speaking of vacuums, they need cleaning and maintenance! Bagless begone, I can’t stand those dirty nasty things, I prefer to have my dirt neatly packaged, so I can toss it in the trash.
Ahhhhh yes, the toilet rim…… get your bathroom rubber gloves on and use a Brillo pad to scrub that underside…….no, your house keeper does not do this and if he or she does? Give me their number right now…
Cleaning gives me a sense of control in an uncontrolled world…..call me Martha or call me a gorilla, I assure you I am just a little bit of both….
